The Best of The Best WordPress Links, Plug-ins, Articles, How-To’s, and more… Over 25 tips and links to make your blog a success!

I started blogging a few weeks ago, and since I do not have a technical background at all, there was a lot to learn, a lot to read, tons of mistakes to make, a lot of searching and researching, and going around in circles trying to figure out how to do the simplest of things. I am still learning.

I figured that if I had found a list of all or most of the things that I needed to do, or where I needed to go to get this or that plug-in, I would have focused my attention on what I really need to do, write great stuff! So I decided that I could provide that service to people who are trying to find WordPress (and other blogging platform) stuff online, all on one page. You just have to click a link, and if you want some more stuff or something different, click a different link. If you find something that is great or helpful, you can send me an email at my website, I will check it out, and I will add it to the list, and I will put a link to your blog next to your contribution. Or you can leave a comment, hopefully people will read your comment and find the info they need. Hope this helps!

This looks great, I am almost exactly 2 months behind you and it looks like you did a wonderful job. I thank you for taking the time to do this. I signed up to wordpress.com instead of wordpress.org. I didn’t realize there were two, I’m not sure what the difference is besides one offers paid upgrades.

    Hi Cathy,
Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment. Thanks for the compliment about my blog. It is work in process…
Do not be overwhelmed that you are 2 months behind me. I am 5 or 10 years behind other people. However, once you get moving, the differences can disappear quickly.
You asked about the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org - here is a link that explains everything; advantages and disadvantages of the two.

Thanks Steve, I will look into it. The first thing I noticed on the .org site is that you can create a blog from scratch, even incorporate some free themes available on the web, all free. I will check out the rest. Did you use wordpress.org and build from scratch on your webpage?

Hi Cathy, thanks for coming back. I went to wordpress.org to get to the link for the free blog. I think you can go straight to wordpress.com to do that. I just started a new blog a few minutes ago, SIMPLECHESS, - because I could not remember where I went and what I did when I had just started a few weeks ago. Anyway, it is all free. There were a ton of themes to choose from. I changed mine from the default, to a different one. I changed the welcome message, the tag line, the blogroll (to links), etc. I wonder if that’s what you meant when you said “build from scratch”. I am not a computer geek, so the template was already made. I just choose which template or theme I wanted. Then the rest of it is just deleting what I don’t want and/or writing new stuff. At the beginning, I played around a lot, to see what the changes I had made affected how my site looked. The more time you spend trying things out, the quicker you will get the hang of it. You also need some patience with yourself and the technology as you are just starting off. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

You are my new best friend! Thank you for taking so much time to compile all of this information in one place. I’ve bookmarked this page and will refer to it often I’m sure. I can’t thank you enough - I’m a newbie too and I thought I had a good grip on things. But you’ve opened my eyes. Good luck with everything. I’ll be checking back often.

    Chrissy,
Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment. I was glad to help. I am no techie, so I am not sure if I will have more technical stuff to share. I just thought I would share those links because of my experience learning new stuff when I starting blogging. It was a little frustrating. It still is sometimes. I am trying to get my other chess blog to be more user friendly…
I am honored to be your friend. I will visit your blog in a little bit.

Assuming either the Left Wing or the Right Wing gained control of the country, it would probably fly around in circles.
